Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore college students' experiences of health behaviors.

Methods: The participants of this study were 12 college students (freshmen-senior years) enrolled in a university in K city. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. The phenomenological methodology proposed by Colaizzi was applied for data analysis.

Results: Nine theme clusters were identified: Distraction of routine life; looking back on one¡¯s own physical condition; aware of the need to exercise; shaking body image; ambivalence toward sex; complicated feelings resulting from changed relationships; suffer from mental stress; resolving accumulated things inside oneself; and tightening self identity.
Conclusion: It became evident that the participants were generally ignorant or did not care about their health status. It is necessary to provide an effective intervention program for college students to promote their health behavior.
